Fairfield Historic District Association will join in the fun of the Highland Mardi Gras Parade on Sunday, March 6th at 2:00pm. Our sponsor for the event, Geosearch Logging, Inc. will send a restored 1945 fire engine and a driver so that we will be represented in what has become one of the areas greatest parades. If you live in the Fairfield Historic District and would like to ride in the parade, please email us at fhda@fairfieldhistoricdistricct.org or call 318-222-1589.
The board of directors met on Tuesday, February 1, 2010. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every other month. Anyone interested in joining the FHDA is welcome to attend. Our next meeting will be held on April 5, 2010.
The Shreveport Historic Preservation Study Committee has published a model historic preservation ordinance. Shreveport is the only major city in Louisiana that does not currently protect its historical properties. The ordinance would create a historic preservation committee that would be responsible for protecting our landmarks, houses, and districts. Creation of this committee will also open the door for future grant dollars that will help Shreveport preserve and protect our past for future generations. If you would like to see a copy of the model ordinance we will be happy to mail one to you. We encourage everyone to become actively involved in this process.
The time for trimming the crape myrtles is here. We will be working on Boulevard Street on Saturday, February 19th. Volunteers are welcome to help with this project.
The new gateway sign for the intersection of Olive and Fairfield has been ordered and should be in place soon. Landscaping to enhance the island at the intersection will also be completed prior to installation of the sign.
