Fairfield Historic District PETAPALOOZA! The Fairfield Historic District Association, along with Centerpoint Energy and Brookshire's, will host the first ever
historic pet walk through the district. This walk will give people throughout the Shreveport-Bossier City area the opportunity
to meet other lovers of history and animals. Pet owners can dress their furry friends in Halloween costumes. The walk will
feature century-old homes. Proceeds from the walk will benefit
Robinson's Rescue. Stay tuned for more details.
Highland Parade The
FHDA was well-represented in this year's Highland Mardi Gras parade, thanks to Geosearch Logging, Inc. Cruising in a vintage 1945 fire truck, the board of directors were able to throw beads, candy, and other special
treats to the thousands of people who lined the streets of Highland.
Sign Topper Project Thanks
to a grant from Shreveport's Neighborhood Improvement Program, many streets throughout the Fairfield Historic
District now bear sign toppers indicating the District's name. The goal of this project was to help define the boundaries
of the Fairfield Historic District while raising awareness of the area’s historical significance. We could not be more
happy with the results and look forward to seeing more signs throughout the District in the near future. The FHDA would like
to offer sincere thanks to Shreveport's Department of Traffic Engineering for the assistance.
Crape
Myrtle Project We have just planted several crape myrtles in the Boulevard median and a few common ground
areas, and we are currently getting ready to plant several more in approved common grounds throughout the district.
If you live in the district and you are interested in receiving crape myrtle trees and pledge to water and take care of them,
please email your request to fhda@fairfieldhistoricdistrict.org. We're looking forward to delineating the district with beautiful crape myrtles, a small tree commonly
found in the South's historic districts.
